Full Moon in Virgo

The Full Moon in Virgo on March 9, 2020 (at 13:48EST) is a time to recollect.

recollect (verb)

1 : to bring back to the level of conscious awareness : remember

2 : to remind (oneself) of something temporarily forgotten : recover

3 : to gather again : rally

4 : to become aware of one’s immediate situation or purpose after a distraction

What are you remembering? What did you temporarily forget?

What are you recovering?

What are you gathering or rallying around?

What is present for you right now?

To recollect is to recover. To look around and see what’s here. To allow things to settle and return to their natural place.

Imagine bringing your teacup oceanside, and trying to use it to contain the ceaseless waves.

Better to let the waves crash where they may, expanding and softening themselves into the sand. Better to let them wash over you and purify your pores and spirit with that good abiding salt. Re-mineralizing salt with forever-bones in it - essences of prehistory.

The water’s gonna flow. Why not go to the water’s edge, and with it, wash your hands?

For so many, the first 9 weeks of 2020 has been long, difficult, and exhausting as we confront and attempt to grapple with what is no longer sustainable.

Maybe we grapple with it less and rest more. Maybe we just become soft and let time and pain move through us without obstruction or distraction.

Life is a continuous oscillation of sleeping and waking. Forgetting and remembering. Like in-and-out breathing.

There is no guilt in your need to rest. To dream is to bring your body and spirit into closer collaboration.

There is no shame in forgetting. There is simply remembering, and responding to the moment with care.

Sometimes our breath gets stuck. Until we become gentle enough that the words, or the tears, or the memories can make passage. Compassion makes passage.

It is already time to slow down and feel how scared we are.

Maybe we show each other our souls inside a glance. Make the glance more personal and less passing. Look each other in the eye in a way that says, “I’m here. You’re here. We’re here.”

Much of the work we are doing right now is not visible to the naked eye. Processing on emotional, mental, and spiritual levels can absorb enormous amounts of energy. The level of fatigue many feel can seem unfounded.

Be assured that if you are tired, if you are in pain, you are not alone. We are going through this together. Our varied angles linked together make one structure.

We are living in a breakdown of the familiar conditions we’ve been raised in and replicating. Realizing the lives we’ve been living don’t make sense for the world we’re inheriting.

People are processing deep trauma. Excavating intergenerational attachment wounds. Processing regrets, endings, failures, feelings of hopelessness. Touching the sensitive roots. We have been swimming in soup, inundated by the fears and blessings of shared waters and rising sea levels.

Everything arising - even the sea - is an invitation to take better care of ourselves and each other.

We are preparing for a future we cannot fully see or comprehend. We don’t know who we are in that yet, how to get there, or what will be asked of us as we travel there. We are guiding each other and being guided by one another and the invisible that knows the way.

Our fears and pains and symptoms are guideposts. Signs to be revered and tended to. Cause for reunion and innerstanding.

science says: compassion strengthens the immune system

We already know that, but capitalism gives us amnesia

and tricks us into thinking it’s the thing that protects us

but it’s the way we hold the thing.

The way we do the thing.
— *Dori Midnight

What if we all woke up tomorrow with our amnesia in a different place? Having been wiped clean of dominator culture. Having totally forgotten how to participate in the structures of separation and oppression?

Maybe this is what we’re really forgetting. And in doing so, new worlds are being dreamed into being at rapid inter-speed.

While fear is a worthy signal, it is not a center point upon which we can anchor.

An apt question for a Virgo Full Moon: is it intuition or anxiety?

Fear is not clairvoyance.
— ** Rebecca Altman

In a season of hypervigilance, hypocrisy, and hypochondria, this Moon restores a modicum of order.

Overcome morbid melancholy by taking practical steps that soothe your fears.

Take care of business. Attend to outstanding affairs and assignments. Make and share extra medicine. Sleep. Sweat. Reset your diet to the foods that are most supportive for your body.

This Moon is a time to make preparations.

Preparation is a process.

Wellness is a process.

Virgo is about healing and solving problems. Its solutions are simple and streamlined, stripped of excess. Virgo mends with remedies that are presently available within and around us: the plants, the animals, the stone people, the way each organ communicates with the others and does its function. Our rhythms, routines, and schedules. The way we approach our daily work.

Virgo asks us to digest life. To take the next simple, practical step, and recognize that process is perfection.

Clean things up, get ordered and organized. Tend the tasks that most bolster your spirits. Plug the holes where energy and emotion has been leaking.

Our season of hygge got co-opted by hype.

Hygge is “a quality of coziness and comfort that gives rise to feelings of wellness and contentment.”

Hype is “excessive publicity and the ensuing commotion.”

To recollect, disengage from the hype.

Bathe in the minute blessings of being alive.

The way the light filters into your windows at this time of year. The smell of herbs boiling on the stove. The sound of small, sacred creatures living nearby. The sensation of moving some part of your body that is asking to be moved at this very moment.

The feeling of everything you contain, absorb, and release in each infinite moment. And your willingness to allow. To un-stifle your tears, put aside your teacup, and let your waves crash where they may.

Aries: My big dreams are born from small steps.

The last two weeks have invited me into a space of rest, release, and surrender. I am not afraid to unravel. I welcome shapelessness, even as the world seems to demand a certain shape of me. I let my dreams inform that shape, like molding my current self from a lump of clay according to my most pervasive inspirations. This Moon is for organizing the un-organizable. Making space for the unpredictable. Saving the unsalvageable. I put rhythms in place that serve my long term goals as I collapse and rebuild my overarching life direction. It is big work that revolutionizes my values and resources. But I won’t lose myself in overwhelm. I take the next small step.

Your donations make this work possible. If they speak to you and you want them to continue, please sustain them with a monthly contribution. Or make a one-time donation of at least $5 here.

Taurus: I liberate my love.

On this Moon, I welcome crystal clarity about my life-direction and hopes for the future. Even if it rocks my world. Love is a force for freedom. I love myself enough to embrace change. I love myself enough to get unstuck. Wherever I have become most bogged down, I invite resuscitation. I am an adaptable being. I am a creative being. This Moon highlights emotions about what wants to be created through me. I listen to the spark within me and trust it to guide me where I need to go.

Your donations make this work possible. If they speak to you and you want them to continue, please sustain them with a monthly contribution. Or make a one-time donation of at least $5 here.

Gemini: My roots support my branches.

I surrender to my place in the world, knowing that I don’t have full control over my life-direction. My purpose and larger contributions still seem unclear, but becoming clearer. I welcome messages and reflections that help me to see myself better and how I might fit into the larger context. In the meantime, while I am waiting for feedback, I tend to inner clarity. What helps me to feel rooted and centered? Which tasks will better organize my home and personal life? What needs to be done right now? What will help me to feel more secure? I work from the inside-out.

Cancer: I share bravely.

I have a special voice. Because I speak not just from my head, but from my soul. This kind of intuitive, emotional intelligence is important, valid, and beautiful. My voice is needed right now, so I offer my take. My view might even be healing or supportive for someone. This Moon highlights connections with community members. I accept the wild changes in relationships that have become available to me in the last couple of years. I stand for myself in relationships. I assert so that I may protect what I care about. I own my wisdom, instead of outsourcing it to someone who I think is more credible. I own my softness and intuition as my strength.

Leo: I organize my resources.

This Full Moon illuminates the need for order and attention to my finances. A great time to comb my books and finish up last-minute tax paperwork. Also important to look at insurance and shared resources. I focus my energy on clearing chores and a backlog of tasks left undone. Not the most exciting Moon… how can I make it feel fun? Invite people over while cleaning? Play my favorite jams? This Moon offers an opportunity to restructure and streamline how I’m working and where my money is coming from. I set rhythms in motion that prioritize my health.

Virgo: I’m feeling myself.

Virgos are always described as humble. It’s an observable characteristic. But it’s hard to be totally unassuming when the Full Moon is shining a wide silver gaze in my own sign! This Moon comes with gifts of recognition or consummation of something set into motion 6 months ago around my birthday. My down-to-earth devotion is carrying me to places I need to go and people I need to connect with. Shifts are happening that will ultimately create more freedom for me. I embrace that. I see this as an opportunity to further self-expression in my life. A new horizon awaits me, and it is juicy.

Libra: I let go and forgive.

For the last two weeks, I have been clearing my slate of everything no longer meant for me. As I clear, I create space for revelations and healing. This Full Moon brings some honest clarity about deeper patterns at work in my life around intimacy. I welcome these shadows into my awareness so I can bring them to closure. I forgive myself and my ancestors for the traumas we endured and harms we caused. I create and set rhythms and small structures in my life that support me to continue healing and rebuilding from the roots up.

Scorpio: I call in the future.

Sometimes moving forward looks more like going backwards. Revisiting my roots allows me to gather myself up and live further into my own potential. Relationships and partnerships are activating me in ways I can’t ignore. Stimulating my genius. Helping me to channel potentialities. As I shift into a new dimension of life, no part of myself will be left behind. I say to my future self, “Welcome in!” I look for opportunities to network and connect. Community reflection reminds me how unique my gifts are and how infinite my own creative potential is.

Sagittarius: I recognize my impact.

This Full Moon feels like a culmination of my goals, my ambitions, and the legacy I wish to leave. It’s a limelight moment of leadership. I allow myself to be seen and recognized. I celebrate and mark how far I have come. All of this has been in the making. What’s happening now is the result of how I have chosen to show up and follow through. There is always a potential that life might interrupt and interfere with my ultimate purpose. Does that keep me from dreaming? Does that keep me from working towards the eventual goals that feel most valid? Hell no. I realize that my life direction is bigger than me. That my core intentions are the continuation of initiatives held by my own ancestors. My purpose began long before I got here, and it will continue after I’m gone.

Capricorn: I open to possibilities.

There’s a lot of fear swirling around me. Instead of letting it weigh me down, I choose to be curious. This world we’re living in now feels like a trip to a foreign land. I’ll learn how to exist here through being considerate, perceptive, and creatively adaptive. According to Chinese Medicine, all dis-ease stems from blocked energy. I open myself up to allow the energy to flow. In the past, I might have shut down or built walls to keep the baddies out. Now I realize it is more important to nourish my inner terrain. There is nothing to guard against. There is only learning and wisdom to gain. We are all one interconnected ecosystem.

Aquarius: I embrace transformation.

I am preparing for a rebirth. It has been a long couple years of restoration. But true spiritual regeneration takes as long as it needs to take. My recent period of convalescence will me coming to a close this year. It’s going to feel like stepping back into the sunshine after long periods of flooding rains. It’s going to feel like drying off, and blinking open my eyes to see that we are living in an entirely new world. This is a world that will offer me a clearer sense of purpose. This Moon highlights my house of secrets, intimacy, and power. I cannot hide any longer. Let me make the unconscious conscious and accept the consequences of my deepest truth.

Pisces: I refine my relationships.

This Full Moon shines its cleansing reflective rays into my 7th house of relationships. I am invited to be more discerning about who I am connecting with. What works well between us? What needs improvement? I hold space to generate more clarity and rest into the process that healthy relating requires. This last week likely brought some rude awakenings and heightened learnings. I greet every new awareness with compassion, and let the sensations they stir up move through me and pour out onto the page. I have the utmost compassion for myself as I continue to clear away anything that isn’t really me.
