New Moon in Virgo

The New Moon in Virgo on September 17, 2020 (at 07:00EST) is unsettled.

This is an anxious, sorrowful Moon seeking order and rhythm. A Moon within mists, laden with unprocessed wounds and sensations of lacking support.

Have you been feeling it? Flooded. Stranded. Overwhelmed. So tired.

Tired of being stuck in behavior patterns that don’t serve us or contribute to the world’s wellbeing.

Tired of our energies being drained by dictates of manufactured time.

Tired of distancing ourselves from life and defending against death.

We are tired of war. Our bodies can’t take this climate of suffering, sacrifice, and separation. Constantly scanning for enemies leaves us weak and distracted from the goodness of life.

We can no longer move in ways that make us ill.

We cannot remain distracted from what ails us.

We mean to participate in life with precious presence.

We must reconnect with the real rhythm of our organic, innate pace.

We are weary, and we want to be well.

We are ready to heal.

If we’re going to heal, we need to feel.

A wise friend, Rochelle Schieck, has said that we can’t selectively feel. We cannot numb only to pain and harsh sensations. When we do that, we also numb to joy and desire. Practicing our capacity to feel it all gives us dexterity in a full range of experience.

Expanding our capacity to experience discomfort supports our wellbeing.

Symptoms are messages that we are ready to heal. Feelings are indicators about what needs to be processed. When we are ready to heal, what makes us sick arises for confrontation and ultimately, digestion.

This Moon is for interrupting coping mechanisms and breaking addictions.

A Moon for grieving the ungrieved.

It’s okay to collapse and call for help.

It’s okay to show that you are struggling. And it’s okay to show that you are strong.

It’s okay to be hopeful or despairing.

Being (exactly as you are right now) is enough.

We cannot go on about our business-as-usual. This is a time to break habitual patterns of avoiding reality, self-sacrifice, and abandonment.

We are hungry to be held.

We are hungry to be helped.

This Moon is an intervention. A sobriety check. A stopgap from what’s not working.

Clean up. Clear out. Simplify.

We are not our problems.

It is time to move from chronic illness to deep-rooted wellness.

Like the Virgo (virgin) archetype, we are whole unto ourselves.

This good Earth serves up everything we need to heal.

Healing is innate to being.

This New Moon is a reset moment. It is a call to clean up from the burdens that have been piling on since Saturn entered Capricorn in December 2017.

The last 2 years have been have been immensely stressful and realigning. They have required us to move with and against extreme pressures and constraints. This hard labor was essential, but we can’t continue in the same way. This is a moment to undo the stress and make a plan to clean up the mess.

Somewhere in your life, you have had enough.

Somewhere in your life, you are being asked to simplify things further, pour out what doesn’t serve, and sort out the most accessible details.

Somewhere in your life, you are invited to know your inner rhythms.

You are not a machine, and neither am I. We are figments of, and stewards to Nature. It is time to organize ourselves as such.

When the Moon is New, it is a time to begin again. To plant seeds of rhythms that serve us and reflect our innate functions. To be intentional about our habits and the movements we make from moment-to-moment.

This Virgo New Moon invites us to participate with life as it truly is: a ritual of the sacred.

Make a plan to live well.

How will you help yourself?

While much of the future remains unknown, there are major astrological indicators that something incredible is about to happen at the end of 2020. (spoiler alert: people will come together)

This is the beginning of a movement.

When leaders and dichotomies fail us, we become more coherent. New leaders emerge from within.

The seeds are already sown. Let’s root it in healing.

A star is born when pockets of gas and dust gather within it, and it becomes so dense, and it collapses by the force of gravity. Once the pressure and the temperature get high enough for nuclear fusion to ignite, it creates a star. Some of us are starting to realize our star potential. What happens next is dependent on what we do with these impactful energies.

Aries: I center my wellbeing.

I slow my roll. Time is not my enemy. I can choose a schedule that works in my favor, and eliminate energy and attention from excess tasks. I do what is necessary - nothing more, and nothing less. My plans and daily pursuits serve the guidance from my intuition. Useless time (daydreaming) is just as important as useful time (doing). I build-in rituals to cleanse my body and support my health. If it feels like I am fighting myself or the outside world, it’s a No. I diffuse struggle and move, instead, with wisdom - knowing that everything has its own timeline and there are consequences for rushing things before they are ready. It feels strengthening to be responsible for myself.

Taurus: My life is a celebration of love.

This Moon is for fresh starts in pleasure and creativity. I generate wildly fertile energy. I may not know precisely what to do with that energy - but divinity knows what it’s for. I give it up to a higher power. I will no longer sacrifice my desires. Instead, I will feel them more deeply as portals to sacred bliss. The more I tap into my own desires, the better and more tuned into myself and my lovers I feel. I liberate myself from what’s been buried and infuse my insides with joy. New romances, or new ways to embody pleasure and creativity bring me back to life. I practice seducing my muses. I reserve extra time to stoke my delight.

Gemini: I promise to support myself.

This Moon is for focusing on my real needs. I remove clutter from my home and family system. It is time to clear the air and organize memories so I can see life more clearly. What was really going on in my family dynamic? Today, I can create a home base and sanctuary that helps me to belong to myself. I need a place that soothes old hurts and cultivates security within myself. Dependency can foster weakness. It is difficult to break patterns of distraction and addiction, but at this point it is also absolutely necessary. Tending myself is my utmost priority. I meet my own needs and embrace myself. In this way, I can be trusted and show up as true kin.

Cancer: I generate new conversations.

In a time full of arguments and defendedness, I invite myself and others to be open to dialogue. I am genuinely curious to hear and believe in new stories. Stories of balance. Stories of wellness. Stories of right-relationship. What would it be like to live in a world based on these principles? What if the world is already based on these principles, and it is simply a process of unlearning? Reality is fostered by perception, so I tend to my mind. Instead of defaulting towards meeting other people’s needs, I ask questions. I am currently carving my way in the world and reshaping my life direction. These dialogues help to clarify what is possible, and what my place might be in the scheme of things.

Leo: I invest in myself.

I refuse to be stingy with myself. Maxine Waters made a mantra when she said “I am reclaiming my time.” I am reclaiming my time and energy without self-criticism. I have spent a lot of my life in service to myself and my gifts, and I get to receive in equal and opposite abundance. Under this Moon, I break patterns of self-subjugation and workaholism. Chronic procrastination is a simple indication that I’m not spending enough time on what generates energy for me. I am allowed to give to myself, despite that ancestral patterns and old traumas can easily tip towards trauma responses when I do so. While I understand this, I am committed to shedding what confines my energy and set terms for what I am really worth. I sense and cultivate the riches within.

Virgo: New Moon, New Me.

Clarity is key. Self-advocacy is key. I commit to practices that help to regulate my nervous system so I can see the present moment with precision. Even three slow conscious breaths can clear a pathway. Under this Moon, I anchor to myself. I will not allow myself to get lost in the clouds others try to create for me. Nor will I be so lazy as to lean into addictive patterns that prevent me from knowing my next step. If I’ve been spinning my wheels, it is time to stop forcing things into the wrong place and let the chips fall where they may. The way I do this is by trusting my heart and being rigorously honest. I trust the natural timeline of all things beginning, enduration, and ending. And I trust myself to know when right-timing arrives.

Libra: I yield to complete restoration.

The last nearly-3 years has been so much. It’s been like living in a book with many chapters and a revolving door of characters. I have completely restructured the most foundational elements of my life during this time. I have also anchored an inner structure of security and belonging that I am keen to build upon. I let this Moon be a respite. A reprieve. A retreat. For processing emotions. For pouring out whatever I no longer need from the deep work of the last few years. The energies of others, or at least a significant other in my life, are challenging my base or provoking me to reconsider what makes me safe. I consider that anchoring and excavating must be coupled with total release. Now is my time to let go.

Scorpio: My genius connects me to authentic community.

This Moon is a time of hope. I use it to glimpse the futures that are possible. While I may not be certain about the specifics of what I am creating, I rest into the knowing that whatever I make will be a product of interbeing. In other words, it’s impossible to know our ‘purpose’ or our ‘life’s work’ in a vacuum without community. My future will be self-created in the cauldron of connection and the expression of my own unique gifts. In order to build my gifts, I stop the daily habits that interfere with or limit my genius. Every moment is precious, and I will treat it as such. The people I know keep me curious, and conversation is some of the best medicine I know.

Sagittarius: I follow the call.

This is a big New Moon for me, as it heralds a fresh start in my life direction. This may mark a new life path, calling, or professional pursuit. If not a new one, it’s an opportunity to restart the old one and lead others from a place of integrated self. How do I care for myself in times of upheaval and confusion? It’s likely that confusing times especially impact inner foundations, feelings of security, home, and family. The main question of this Moon is, “where am I going?” And the answer is, “what are you dreaming, and how are you caring for your needs right now?” Balance the practical and the fantastical. Go towards what’s vital. I invest my energy as guided by my heart, beating.

Capricorn: I am designed to expand.

Contraction sometimes feels easy. Familiar. But it also feels old, outdated, and like it contains forms of resistance within it. I refuse to resist my real self any longer. I commit to de-conditioning until I live as my essence, without the burdens of external expectation. From here on out, I’m here to embody bone-deep, ages old wisdom. This Moon is the beginning of new journeys I can take to understanding the meanings that live inside my marrow. It is the beginning of nature healing me in ways I never knew possible until now. The deeper I go into reality, the more free I become. I know this to be who I’ve always been.

Aquarius:  I befriend the power of transformation.

Harboring a phobia of death is futile, for death is a threshold all living beings pass through. Some say that becoming close to death is how we know life and its mysteries. For death is not about extinguishing light, it is simply the change of light. This Moon is an invitation to the immortality of befriending death. Not physical death, but rather emotional and psychic transformation. One way to befriend death is to experience mystery without resistance. Metamorphic states are innate to humanity. I experience this as a time of purging what no longer serves so that I can merge more deeply with what does. I choose to immerse myself in darkness and light, knowing that rebirth is inevitable.

Pisces: I embrace supportive connections.

This New Moon falls in my 7th house of relationships and partners. It sparks a possible new beginning with a companion. I approach it with a sweet balance between logic and intuition - not needing to dream into any particular outcomes, but allowing myself to be preciously present with exactly what is. Since December 2017, I have been restructuring my place within community. Many lessons have been learned. One of those lessons is that I am worthy, and that I deserve real, measurable loving care. I am a match for people in my life who help me to be well. As this Moon dawns, I begin a new 6 month cycle to rhythms of relational wellness that serve me and others. It is a testament that the compassion I hold for myself is equal to what I offer the world at large.
